Our Newsletter

Here you can find the latest information from our Member Organizations, "Big Tent" Network Partners and us.

Mid-Year Newsletter 2026

This year has started with an inspiring annual SIOP Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. Like many of you, we had an exciting time at this gathering, and we are glad to share some of our experiences and information on our sessions. We will also highlight our member organizations and their new initiatives and upcoming events in this issue.

Looking ahead, we are excited for two major conferences this summer: The Brazilian Conference of Work and Organizational Psychology in Salvador, Bahia and the International Congress of Applied Psychology in Florence, Italy.  At the latter, we will organize three sessions and a pre-workshop to discuss the future AOP agenda with our delegates.

Thank you for staying in touch with the Alliance for Organizational Psychology (AOP) through this newsletter!

Annemarie Hiemstra, Sharon Glazer, Mark Poteet, & Alexandra Michel

Farewell message from the AOP President for Sharon Glazer & Mark Poteet

The publication of this newsletter marks the end of the academic year in the Northern part of the globe. And for AOP it marks the end of the term of two of our cherished board members. After six years of excellent service, Secretary General, Sharon Glazer, and Treasurer Mark Poteet will step down per July 1st. As a special thank you, I have invited AOP’s Past-President Barbara Kozusznik to address Mark and Sharon. You can read her letter in this edition of the newsletter.

It is hard to say goodbye to Mark and Sharon, but fortunately it is not a farewell. Sharon will continue to connect societies around the world as liaison for AOP’s Big Tent initiative.  The Big Tent includes a set of organizations around the globe that share similar values around the science and practice of work and organizational psychology. Our hope is to bring everyone around the globe to a virtual table in this virtual "big tent", facilitating understanding, communication, and eventually joint activities. Are you representing your society and interested in joining the Big Tent? Please reach out to us.

Mark will also continue to liaise with Industrial, Work and Organizational Psychology representatives around the globe, via his SIOP UN committee work and as part of the organizing committee of the Global Work and Organizational Psychology event (G-WOP). The second edition of this successful online G-WOP event is scheduled for 17-18 September 2026. Make sure to join us there!

We are very lucky and grateful to welcome the newly elected AOP officers, Juliana Porto will start as Secretary General and Scott Tonidandel as Treasurer. I look forward to working with you all in the years to come.

Best wishes,

Annemarie Hiemstra

President

Farewell message from the former AOP President Barbara Kożusznik for Sharon Glazer & Mark Poteet

Dear Sharon and Mark,

As I concluded my term of service for the Alliance for Organizational Psychology some time ago, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to both of you for the privilege of working together.

Sharon, thank you for believing so deeply in the importance of building a shared identity for work and organizational psychologists around the world. One of my most vivid memories is sitting together for hours in Anaheim, carefully refining the Declaration of Identity. I remember your remarkable attention to detail, your thoughtfulness, and your commitment to finding exactly the right words. I also fondly recall our work at the EAWOP Congress in Katowice, where we created the Identity Space. It became much more than a physical place—it was a forum for meaningful conversations with colleagues who entered “our” space to discuss the future of work and organizational psychology. Those discussions remain among my most cherished memories from our time in the Alliance.

Mark, thank you for the sense of responsibility and stability you brought to our work. You always approached financial matters with great seriousness and care. I still smile when I remember the formidable expression on your face whenever we started discussing expenses—it was a reassuring reminder that someone was diligently safeguarding the Alliance’s resources. Your thoughtful stewardship helped ensure that our ambitions were grounded in responsibility and sustainability.

To both of you: thank you for your friendship, your commitment, your wisdom, and your partnership. Working with you has been a truly rewarding experience. Together, we shared not only responsibilities and challenges, but also a vision for strengthening our profession and its global community.

I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this journey with you.

With warmest regards and sincere appreciation,

Barbara

Letter from Sharon

Dear Colleagues,

It is hard to imagine that four years have passed since I took office as secretary-general of the Alliance for Organizational Psychology (AOP) in July 2022. I initially joined for a two-year period, but circumstances changed, extending my service to 4 years. It has been a privilege to serve alongside many dedicated colleagues: with Mark Poteet as treasurer throughout my term; with Annamarie Hiemstra, President, and Alexandra Michel, Communications Officer, over the last two years; and with Barbara Kozusznik and Janneke Oostrom during the first two years of my service.

During the four years, we have promoted a Declaration of Identity, which I co-authored with Barbara Kozusznik, and welcomed the Brazilian Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (SBPOT) and the Australian College of Organisational Psychologists as federated member groups. We supported and helped broaden the network of participants in the GWOP through connections we have nurtured across the Alliance’s Big Tent. During the SIOP, EAWOP, and ICAP congresses, the Alliance had a fantastic presence with curated sessions supported by the AOP conference committee, led by Deirdre O’Shea and, over the last two years, by Julia Hass. The Big Tent membership has grown incrementally under the leadership of Laura Dryjanska and DJ O’Dnnell, who served until last summer and now with support of Maria Baldova and Vi Phung, graduate students at Rutgers University.

The AOP has a special place in my heart since I stumbled upon its first official meeting at the 2009 SIOP conference held in New Orleans, LA. It was beautiful to see the nostalgia of the experience for Jose Maria Peiro, who was amongst the founders of AOP, when we met at SIOP in New Orleans in April/May 2026.

Through the AOP I have met many deep intellectuals who are committed to promoting the field of Industrial, Work, and Organizational Psychology (IWOP) in all work sectors and who are working hard to make IWOP visible across the globe. There is no better position to be in than an officer in AOP, where one gets to connect with and learn from an international array of scholars, practitioners, and educators.

I am excited to see what lies ahead for the organization. I know that with Juliana Porto from SBPOT at the helm as secretary-general, the association, together with Annemarie, Alex, and Scott Tonidandel, will flourish even more. Several initiatives we began ideating since July 2024 are taking shape, including this second biannual newsletter of the AOP. I am delighted that the BoD has entrusted me with continuing as an active contributor to AOP in the role of Chair of the Big Tent. Thus, while I roll off one role with the AOP, I look forward to continuing my service for our profession globally and in earnest.

Thank you for a fulfilling four years!

Warmest wishes!

Sharon

Past Event: SIOP Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana

Following the conclusion of the 2026 Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA, USA (April 29 to May 2, 2026), the Conference Committee of the Alliance for Organizational Psychology is pleased to share highlights from the three sessions it hosted. Convening academics and practitioners from around the world, these sessions advanced global dialogue on decent work, human-AI collaboration, and worker well-being.

SIOP 2026 Sessions

Bringing Decent Work to the Next Generation of IWOP Professionals

Presenters: Walter Reichman (Chair), Andrea Bazzoli, Sharon Glazer, Vicente Antonio Martinez-Tur, Jenna McChesney, and Mahima Saxena.

Faculty from several universities across three countries shared how they weave decent work into their teaching and prepare the next generation of I-O professionals to improve worker well-being. As part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, decent work covers fair income, security, social protection, development opportunities, and equal opportunity, yet it rarely reaches textbooks or classrooms.

Designing Human-AI Collaboration for Psychological Safety and Well-Being

Presenters: Pär Löfstrand (Co-Chair), Julia Haas (Co-Chair), Richard Landers, Evangelia Demerouti, Sharon Glazer, Shonna Waters, Gerianne de Klerk-van Someren, and Malissa Clark.

Academics and practitioners explored how working alongside AI shapes stress, trust, and psychological safety, and how thoughtful job design can build trust and ease strain. Panelists traded real-world challenges, wins, and practical strategies for protecting well-being in increasingly tech-heavy workplaces.

Worker Well-Being Research and Practice

Presenters: M. Gloria González-Morales, Sharon Glazer, Julia Haas, Xinxuan Che, José María Peiró, and Liu-Qin Yang.

This panel brought applied and academic experts together to compare international perspectives on worker well-being. Key take-aways from the Society for Occupational Health Psychology (SOHP) pre-conference forum were shared, connecting research, practice, and action.

News from the AOP Conference Committee: Looking Ahead

The Committee is now preparing for several upcoming conferences, including the International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP) in Florence, Italy; the Brazilian Congress of Organizational and Work Psychology (CBPOT) in Brazil; and the Australian Psychological Society College of Organisational Psychologists (APS COP) Conference.

APS COP Conference

For APS COP, we are developing a session on leadership and have accepted the following session under the Call for Proposals:

Advancing Women’s Leadership at Work: Organizational Culture, Support Systems, and Professional Development

Chair: Vivian dos Santos Miranda. Presenters: Ma. Vivian dos Santos Miranda, Ma. Bruna Marina Melo Martins, and Ma. Sweldma Arantes Celestino Lima.

Grounded in Social-Cognitive Career Theory, this panel takes a multi-level look at why women remain underrepresented in leadership and what helps or hinders their advancement. It connects the psychological side of women’s career development (self-efficacy, self-esteem, locus of control), organizational supports such as mentoring, sponsorship, and managerial backing, and the influence of organizational culture and values, offering practical ideas for building more inclusive leadership pathways.

Join the Conference Committee

We are still looking for a representative from APS COP to join the Alliance Conference Committee. If you are interested, please review the Call for Conference Committee Members for details on how to get involved.

Calls for Proposals: SIOP 2027 & EAWOP 2027

This fall, the Committee will issue Calls for Proposals for SIOP 2027 and EAWOP 2027. We welcome submissions from across the global community and encourage you to visit our Conference Committee page for the latest updates.

Welcome to the Committee

News: Member Organizations & "Big Tent"

EAWOP: New initiatives and upcoming events

The European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) is launching several initiatives to strengthen research collaboration, professional development, and policy impact across Europe. Recent results from a member survey, completed by 152 participants, highlighted current research interests, future priorities, and expectations for engagement, helping shape EAWOP’s strategic direction for the coming years.

To enhance networking and career development, EAWOP has introduced the Academic Pairs initiative, which connects members for informal mentoring, experience sharing, and mutual professional support. Members are encouraged to participate as both mentors and mentees. In addition, EAWOP is launching the Students & Early-career Scholars Community to support PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and other early-career academics in building connections and becoming actively involved in the wider EAWOP network.

EAWOP is also increasing its societal relevance through the new Policy Impact Papers initiative, designed to bring together scientific expertise from across Europe and translate research knowledge into visible and practical policy contributions.

Several events are planned for 2026 and 2027. The EAWOP Early Career Summer School will take place at the University of Bologna from 7–11 September 2026 in collaboration with the Academy of Management Organizational Behavior Division. Upcoming small group meetings will address inclusive workplaces, neurodiversity at work, student wellbeing and productivity, and trust in workplace relationships. Additional events include a webinar on evidence-based practice in work psychology and a workshop on AI in assessment. The next EAWOP conference will be held in Lyon from 26–29 May 2027.

IAAP: One-Day hybrid international conference

We are pleased to share information about a recent international conference supported by Division 1 organized by Division 1 member Annamaria Di Fabio.

This One-Day Hybrid International Conference titled "Sustainability Science and the Agenda 2030. The Psychology of Sustainability and Sustainable Development framework for Social Acceptance: Contributing to a Sustainable Sustainability. MANUREFINERY Horizon Project" in part with the "IAAP Special Project Promoting Decent Work for All" was held on June 3, 2026, in Florence, Italy.

In a transdisciplinary perspective, the event included as outstanding keynote speaker Prof. Marc A. Rosen, Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering (University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada) and many other thought-provoking contributions.

This hybrid conference was open to the public and free of charge.

SBPOT: CBPOT & other news

The Brazilian Society for Work and Organizational Psychology (SBPOT) is preparing for one of the largest editions in the history of the Brazilian Congress of Work and Organizational Psychology (CBPOT), which will take place in Salvador, Brazil, from July 14–17, 2026. The event is approaching a record number of nearly 800 scientific contributions, reinforcing the vitality and growth of the field in Brazil and Latin America.

This edition is especially meaningful for SBPOT, as Salvador hosted the first CBPOT and was the city where the association took its first institutional steps. Returning to Salvador represents both a celebration of SBPOT’s trajectory and an opportunity to reflect on the future of work and organizational psychology in a context of major social and digital transformations.

The congress theme, “Social and Digital Transformations: Challenges for Sustainable Configurations of Work,” reflects current debates on work, technology, inclusion, sustainability, and social justice. The scientific program will bring together researchers, practitioners, students, and institutional leaders from different regions of Brazil and international partners.

SBPOT will also have a strong presence at the International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP) 2026 in Florence, Italy. Hugo Sandall will chair an invited symposium and present an experience report connected to professional development, organizational psychology, and social inclusion initiatives developed in Brazil. In addition, SBPOT representatives will participate in workshops promoted by the Alliance for Organizational Psychology (AOP) and by Division 1 of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), strengthening international collaboration and institutional exchange.

Another important milestone is SBPOT’s contribution to the internationalization of Brazilian psychology through the candidacy of Rio de Janeiro to host ICAP 2034. The initiative is led collectively within the Brazilian Forum of National Psychology Entities (FENPB), with SBPOT coordinating the proposal presentation during ICAP 2026. We warmly invite delegates to support Rio de Janeiro’s candidacy.

Finally, SBPOT celebrates the participation of Juliana Porto in the AOP Secretariat. Her appointment represents an important recognition of Brazilian contributions to the international organizational psychology community, and we wish her a successful and inspiring experience in this role.

SIOP: SIOP Conference and Leading Edge Consortium

The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology recently held its annual conference in New Orleans, and it was wonderful to see so many Alliance members in person. The conference once again highlighted the strong international connections and shared interests across the organizational psychology community.

Our next major event is the Leading Edge Consortium (LEC), SIOP’s annual smaller conference series focused on emerging and high-impact topics in the field. Compared with the annual conference, the LECs are intentionally smaller and more specialized, creating additional opportunities for discussion, networking, and collaboration among researchers and practitioners.

This year, SIOP is trying something new by hosting two connected LECs during the same week at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.

The first LEC, held September 30 (full day) and October 1 (half day), will focus on Shaping the Future of People Analytics. The second, held October 1 (half day) and October 2 (full day), will focus on Assessment in a New Era. Attendees may register for either event individually or participate in both conferences.

Additional information is available at SIOP Leading Edge Consortium.

We hope to see many Alliance colleagues in Baltimore this Fall!
